Nueva York, 9 de marzo de 2021\u00a0–<\/strong> El Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD) ha anunciado hoy los nueve ganadores del Desaf\u00edo de Innovaci\u00f3n Oce\u00e1nica (OIC) de 2020. El OIC es un mecanismo \u00fanico lanzado por el PNUD, con el apoyo de Suecia y Noruega, en enero de 2020 para acelerar el progreso del ODS 14 sobre los oc\u00e9anos mediante la identificaci\u00f3n, financiaci\u00f3n y tutor\u00eda de enfoques innovadores para la restauraci\u00f3n y protecci\u00f3n de los oc\u00e9anos y las costas que sostengan los medios de vida y promuevan la “econom\u00eda azul”.<\/p>\n

Nuestro oc\u00e9ano se enfrenta a amenazas sin precedentes, afectando los ecosistemas y todos beneficios que proporciona a la humanidad, desde la regulaci\u00f3n del clima, hasta la seguridad alimentaria y el turismo costero. Las nueve innovaciones ganadoras abarcan una amplia gama de enfoques t\u00e9cnicos, pol\u00edticos y normativos para reducir la contaminaci\u00f3n marina, como el uso de sustitutos org\u00e1nicos benignos para los productos pl\u00e1sticos, la introducci\u00f3n de normativas de responsabilidad ampliada del productor para reducir la contaminaci\u00f3n por pl\u00e1sticos y las algas marinas cosechadas de forma sostenible como sustituto de los fertilizantes sint\u00e9ticos.<\/p>\n

El administrador del PNUD, Achim Steiner, felicit\u00f3 a los innovadores de los oc\u00e9anos de 2020: “La humanidad depende de los oc\u00e9anos para una amplia gama de servicios de los ecosistemas, incluidos los millones de puestos de trabajo y medios de subsistencia que proporcionan los sectores oce\u00e1nicos, como la pesca y el turismo costero. Financiamiento del Ocean Innovation Challenge\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

El OCI est\u00e1 generosamente financiado a trav\u00e9s de las contribuciones de la Agencia Sueca de Cooperaci\u00f3n Internacional para el Desarrollo (Asdi) y la Agencia Noruega de Cooperaci\u00f3n para el Desarrollo (Norad).<\/p>\n

El PNUD es la principal organizaci\u00f3n de las Naciones Unidas que lucha por acabar con la injusticia de la pobreza, la desigualdad y el cambio clim\u00e1tico. Trabajando con su amplia red de expertos y socios en 170 pa\u00edses, ayudan a las naciones a construir soluciones integradas y duraderas para las personas y el planeta.<\/p>\n
