Al a\u00f1o, mueren alrededor de 100.000 tortugas marinas a causa del pl\u00e1stico<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Con el af\u00e1n de cubrir sus necesidades b\u00e1sicas, las tortugas marinas buscan d\u00eda a d\u00eda la forma de alimentarse y as\u00ed continuar con su andar bajo el mar.<\/p>\n

Una de sus comidas favoritas son las medusas, lo cual en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os se ha convertido en algo fatal para ellas, pues existe un “fantasma” que las enga\u00f1a: El pl\u00e1stico.<\/p>\n

Al confundirlo con las medusas, las tortugas consumen el pl\u00e1stico que fue lanzado al oc\u00e9ano y terminan ahogadas pues su organismo no es capaz de procesar un desecho de tal forma.<\/p>\n

Por a\u00f1o, se estiman alrededor de 100 mil muertes de tortugas por contacto con pl\u00e1stico que contamina su entorno. Aunque otros mam\u00edferos tambi\u00e9n sufren por la misma causa, las tortugas son las m\u00e1s afectadas.<\/p>\n

Pese a que Am\u00e9rica Latina y el Caribe lideran la conservaci\u00f3n marina en el planeta, la lucha contra la contaminaci\u00f3n sigue siendo pan de cada d\u00eda con el fin de proteger a los animales que, incluso, generan miles de d\u00f3lares en turismo.<\/p>\n

Recientemente, en la Reuni\u00f3n del Comit\u00e9 Cient\u00edfico de la Convenci\u00f3n Interamericana para la Protecci\u00f3n y Conservaci\u00f3n de las Tortugas Marinas (CIT), se afirm\u00f3 que las bolsas pl\u00e1sticas arrojadas al mar se convirtieron en uno de los peores enemigos para el ecosistema.<\/p>\n

\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 los efectos son letales para las tortugas?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tan s\u00f3lo 2 cent\u00edmetros de pl\u00e1stico que sean enviados por la garganta de una tortuga, son suficientes para obstruir su sistema digestivo, lo cual causa desesperaci\u00f3n, asfixia y una muerte casi inmediata para los nobles espec\u00edmenes marinos<\/p>\n

Es debido a su consistencia que el pl\u00e1stico no es capaz de escapar por la nariz o la boca y se queda atorado en el organismo del animal.<\/p>\n

Pero hay una consecuencia todav\u00eda m\u00e1s grave: Al confundir las bolsas de pl\u00e1stico con medusas, hay momentos en que las tortugas mueren de hambre. Esto porque piensan que se sienten satisfechas luego de comer, pero realmente solo poseen pl\u00e1stico en su est\u00f3mago.<\/p>\n

El Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente anunci\u00f3 que este problema debe ser reducido cuanto antes pues en cuesti\u00f3n de a\u00f1os las tortugas se convertir\u00edan en especie con peligro de extinci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

“Basados en datos registrados de platas, descubrimos que m\u00e1s de mil tortugas mueren al a\u00f1o solo por enredarse con basura en el mar. Si sumamos las muertes por consumir pl\u00e1stico estamos viendo una completa destrucci\u00f3n en nuestro ecosistema”, manifest\u00f3 Brendan Godley, autor principal de un estudio por parte de la ONU Medio Ambiente.<\/p>\n

Protecci\u00f3n de tortugas en Costa Rica<\/strong><\/h3>\n

En mayo del 2018 el Gobierno de la Rep\u00fablica manifest\u00f3 que se encuentra disponible un documento con la Estrategia Nacional para la Conservaci\u00f3n y Protecci\u00f3n de las Tortugas Marinas en Costa Rica.<\/span><\/p>\n

El documento cita que la estrategia comenz\u00f3 en 2015 con el fin de ordenar los temas relacionados a las tortugas marinas, sumando estrategias a nivel nacional.<\/p>\n

“El objetivo general de la estrategia es gestionar de manera integral las acciones del Estado Costarricense con participaci\u00f3n activa de los distintos actores en materia de conservaci\u00f3n, protecci\u00f3n, manejo y recuperaci\u00f3n de las poblaciones de tortugas marinas y sus h\u00e1bitats cr\u00edticos”, cita el escrito.<\/p>\n

4) Cambio clim\u00e1tico, medidas de mitigaci\u00f3n y adaptaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

5) Informaci\u00f3n, educaci\u00f3n ambiental y sensibilizaci\u00f3n para la conservaci\u00f3n,+ y 6) Participaci\u00f3n de la sociedad civil.<\/p>\n
